How to Fix Allow Chrome to Access the Network in Your Firewall or Antivirus
In this article we will discuss some methods of adding Google Chrome to the Whitelist of your antivirus program along with your Windows Firewall. But this raises a question of what exactly does the firewall and antivirus program do?
Well, a simple answer is that they keep an eye on your online activity, i.e., the packets of data received and sent in order to ensure there are zero threats to your PC. However, at times this process can cause serious issues during your browsing experience.

Method 1 – Adding Exception to Windows Firewall
You have to start by adding to your Windows Firewall an exception. Windows Firewall can be described as a network security system which does the job of monitoring and controlling incoming as well as outgoing traffic depending on certain predefined security protocols.
Windows Firewall acts as a barrier in between untrusted external networks and the trusted internal network (in your case, the internet). It is very uncommon for the firewall to refuse access to the internet which at times include Google Chrome. Given below are the steps to add it to your whitelist:
Step 1 – At first, press the Windows + S key together. Then, type Firewall in the dialogue box that will appear. Now, open the program.
Step 2 – After the firewall settings open, click on the option that says “Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall“.
Step 3 – Here you will see a list of all the apps that are installed on your PC along with their status of whether they have been blocked or not. Now, ensure that your Google Chrome has been checked.
Another way is to temporarily disable Windows Firewall, in case adding the exception is causing some problems for you. Simply go back to the first page and choose the option that says “Turn Windows Defender Firewall on or off”. You can disable Windows Firewall for Public as well as Private networks from this page.
NOTE: Disabling Windows Firewall can be a risky plan. We are not to be held accountable if you choose to disable Windows Firewall. We are not in any way under any condition responsible for any damage that happens thereafter.
Method 2 – Adding Exception to Avast Antivirus
Avast Antivirus Software is a multinational company of Czech and has its headquarters in Czech Republic and Prague. Avast Software development antivirus programs and also offer software for internet safety.
The company was founded in the year 1988 by Pavel Bandis and Eduard Kucera. And by the year 2016, it had approximately 400 million users for its antivirus program.
Using Avast users can add Global exclusions to their files. This means that the users are excluded from all types of shields and scans that analyze the work of apps and files and isolate them if they look harmful.
Moreover, users can also add exceptions to the “Web Shield”. In this method, we will try to exclude the site from this web shield. But in case this doesn’t work, you can add Google Chrome as a global exception.
Step 1 – Open the Activate Protection tab. Now, click on the option Customize that is located in front of the Web Shield.
Step 2 – Next, click on the option Exclusion. Now, add the site which is creating trouble.
If adding an exception over and over again is getting tedious, then simply disable the web shield totally for once and check if this helps you get rid of the issue.
Method 3 – Adding exclusion to Windows Defender
Windows Defender is defined as an antivirus component of the Microsoft Windows. Windows Defender was first launched as a free anti-spyware software in the Window’s version Windows XP and was included in all the next versions of Windows, i.e., Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 10. Given below are the steps to exclude Google Chrome from your Windows Defender:
Step 1 – At first, click on the Windows button. Then, type Windows Defender in the search bar. Among the search result, you will see an option Windows Defender Security Center. Click on it.
Step 2 – Here you will see a list of options present in the new window. Click on the option that says Virus and Threat Protection.
Step 3 – Once you have entered the menu, go to the option Virus and Threat Protection Settings. Here Windows may ask you to allow the administrator access in order to use this option. If so, click on Yes.
Step 4 – Once you’ve entered the required menu, look for the Add or remove exclusions window. Once you find it, click on it and you will reach a menu. Here you get to add exclusions. You can easily exclude extensions, files and folders. In our case, we have to exclude the entire Google Chrome folder that is present in the directory where you downloaded it.
Step 5 – Now, click on Exclude a folder. Then, go to the Chrome directory. The default location for the Google Chrome folder is “C:\Program Files(x86)\Google“. Once you reach there, select the folder and then save changes.

Step 1 – Start by launching the Malwarebytes window. Then, click on the tab Malware Exclusions present on the left.
