The United States Embassy in Mexico has reported that there was a security breach in Cancun Airport’s Terminal Three.
This follows rumours that shots were fired inside the airport. According to Ticker’s verification with Mexican authorities, there has been no gunfire at Cancun International Airport. Videos posted online show passengers fleeing terminal 3 in panic after hearing loud booms.
The federal government has reported that the loud noises were caused by a malfunctioning x-ray machine.
The state police head tweeted that authorities “are attempting to identify the cause of the multiple versions encircling Cancun’s airport, not finding any traces of detonations or explosives.”
They said thousands ran out of the airport, some getting run over in the panicked stampede.
During their time at Cancun Airport, one Twitter user spotted a mob of people running and screaming towards them. There are people hiding behind tables and chairs.
In continuation, the Twitter user wrote, “people appear to think someone had a gun… Nonetheless, security is unable to verify. The terminal has been evacuated, at least in part.
Passengers Flee Cancun Airport After Loud Noise in Terminal
Monday, tourists at the Cancun, Mexico, airport were sent into a frenzy by reports of loud explosions.
According to a statement released by the National Guard, flights were temporarily halted after officials received reports of gunshots at the airport.
The airport’s emergency operations centre said in a statement that the sounds were determined to not have been gunfire and were instead the result of three advertising signs being knocked over by a passenger.
KARE 11 in Minnesota reported that a passenger at the airport said, “We were waiting at the gate, seated.
Shortly after the crew offered pre-boarding, there was a tremendous boom and a mass of passengers ran by shouting.”
The passenger from Minnesota stated, “Several individuals yelled ‘get down!'” Many people, including passengers and the gate attendants, hurried down the jetway to board the aircraft.
In the confusion, an elderly woman fell and was trampled by a group of teenagers.
Airport passengers live-tweeted footage of a widespread fear, complete with blaring alarms and people cowering behind columns.
Videos of people exiting onto the tarmac were circulated among passengers on board the aircraft.
Cancun’s reputation as a tranquil retreat has been tarnished by a recent surge of violence and deaths, and this unease reflects that.
Cancun Airport ‘Shooting’: Passengers Run and Scream after Baggage Machine Explodes

Others in the flight shared their accounts of passengers running for safety, leaving behind their belongings and mobile devices, on social media.
According to Lucio Hernández Gutiérrez, the state’s secretary of public security, no injuries, percussion cartridges, or other evidence verifying firearm detonations have been found as of yet.
According to the Emergency Operations Centre at Cancun Airport, a search has been initiated, but no evidence of explosives or gunshots has been found.
‘There was just a massive gunshot in the airport right behind where we were sitting,’ one of the passengers claimed. “Everyone got trampled and we had to go on the floor and crawl, but we’re fine.”
